CIMT (Carotid Intima-Media Thickness)

A non-invasive carotid ultrasound that measures the thickness of the artery wall and screens for early-stage atherosclerosis.

Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) is a vascular ultrasound that measures the thickness of the two inner layers of the carotid artery wall. These layers thicken subtly as atherosclerosis develops, often years before plaque becomes large enough to detect on other imaging. CIMT is a non-invasive, radiation-free test and provides useful early-warning information for cardiovascular risk stratification, particularly in women.

For Menopause members, CIMT is included at all tiers where clinically indicated, conducted through Summit Cardio or arranged privately depending on the circumstance. Findings are reviewed with your menopause physician alongside lipid testing and inflammation markers, and inform decisions about hormone therapy, preventative medication, and lifestyle interventions.
