BMD (Bone Mineral Density)

A bone mineral density assessment using DEXA imaging at the spine and hip, used to screen for osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing is the dedicated interpretation of DEXA imaging for the purpose of fracture-risk stratification. Results are reported as T-scores and Z-scores at the spine and hip, placing bone density on a normalized scale against reference populations. BMD underpins formal diagnoses of osteopenia and osteoporosis and informs decisions about pharmacological treatment, weight-bearing exercise, and supplementation.

For Menopause members, BMD assessment is arranged where clinically indicated based on menopause status, personal risk factors, fracture history, and related bloodwork. The scan itself is brief and involves minimal radiation. Results are integrated with bone-turnover markers, vitamin D status, calcium intake, and exercise habits to build a focused bone-health strategy.
