VO2 max is the maximum volume of oxygen your body can use during exercise, measured directly through a structured cardiopulmonary test on a treadmill or stationary bike while breathing through a metabolic cart. It is the most rigorous laboratory marker of aerobic fitness and one of the most consistent predictors of long-term health outcomes in the research literature, independent of other risk factors.
VO2 max testing is included in the Longevity program at Tier 2 and above, with repeat testing at six-month intervals at Tier 3 to track training response. The test takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes of escalating effort until true maximum is reached, and yields detailed aerobic and anaerobic thresholds that the exercise prescription is built around. VO2 max testing is a Longevity-program inclusion only.
